National Service Scheme is another attraction of St.Joseph's HSS, Thalassery. A unit of NSS has been sanctioned in this school in the year 2004. A teacher from the higher secondary section is always in charge of the NSS activities. Ever since the students of St.Joseph's have been involving in various national services.

An active and effective NSS unit has been functioning in this institution since 2004-2005. All interested students can can join NSS. Those who compete the NSS activities including 10 days of annual special camp successfully will be awarded the NSS cetificate by the Directorate of Higher Secondery Education. This certificate is beneficial to get grace marks of 15 for the Higher studies.

The members of NSS are known as NSS volunteers.Volunteers as a rule are directed to participate in ten days special camp, three days camp and all other regular activities of NSS. One who has participated in all these activities shall be given a certificate at the completion of two years. There are 100 volunteers-50 students each from 1st and 2nd years form the NSS unit of this school every year.
